OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, May 8th, 6-8pm

In the Puget Sound, the beach landscape is constantly being altered by tidal waves. During high tides, immense logs, sand bars, piles of rocks and all kinds of debris are being deposited on the beach.  Often, the next tide removes it all in this daily cycle of regeneration.

This relocation, exchange and natural construction that the tides create has long fascinated me. For my recent artwork, I have been concentrating on the small details of sea life among the detritus that the tide delivers. Of all the undesirable matter that the tidal waves bring, there are often precious seaweed details of which I create my art.

In Gifts from the tide, I transform my photographs of natural seaweeds found at the edge of Salish Sea into abstract, often narrative or surreal images. This body of work is a playful celebration of form, color and movement from our local seaside landscape.
